Gabrielle Batenburg

Clinical Psychologist

Gabrielle is a warm, relaxed and down-to-earth person. She whakapapa/relates to Ngāi Te Rangi and Ngāti Raukawa, as well as the Netherlands and Ireland. She loves living in the warm, sunny Tauranga and appreciates it more having lived a few years in windy Wellington.

Gabrielle works with a range of clients and loves working with those in the rainbow/queer community. She has worked in a variety of roles including with children, young people and families, in prison and at an advisory level for Corrections, as well as in private practice. Gabrielle has a supportive and empathetic approach to therapy. Her goal is to make sure you feel safe to discuss anything without fear of judgement and to feel like you and her are a team working to move forward with what’s impacting you. She is flexible in therapy and loves to get your feedback to make sure you’re feeling good about sessions and they’re working for you.

Gabrielle uses a variety of interventions and tailors this based on what will work best for you and what the particular issues are at any point in time. These include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Attachment/Systemic intervention, trauma-informed approaches, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Gabrielle will always want to have a call with you first to get some information about what you’re looking for, make sure she has the right skills for you, and give you a chance to see if you think it would be a good fit. It’s always nicer to have had some contact like this first to put your mind at ease as going to meet a new therapist can be intimidating!
